[QUOTE]but sort of looks after its self now.

Looks nice  . Are you planning to add any corals? What do you use those external filters for?
:thanx:
i had a couple of coral in there about 1 year ago and all of the sudden it didnt open again and died <_<
But now im happy with the rock structure i need some in there.
iI dont know much about corals (more of a fish man)
What do you recommend?
Hardyness and colour being the most important
hi
the reason your corals didnt do well could be that you dont seem to have much flow going on in there, cant see any powerheads, just the 2 cannister filters.
whats in the cannisters?
do you use RO Water?
how often do you do water changes?
wha tare your params, i,e, calcium, magnesium, KH, Nitrate etc?
oh and phosphate?
high phosphate will stop your corals from growing like they should, if you arent using RO water and/or a phosphate remover you WILL have high phosphate levels
There is quite alot of water movement in there. 4 pumps in total + return.
2 - 402s
1 - 802
another powerhead something like a 402 ?
1 - 1060 return from sump which moves alot of water.
I managed to hide them very well when i re-aranged the rock work
The canister on the left has kent marine phosphate sponge (used to use rowa but found the kent stuff was better at removing the algie)
The right one has filterfloss.
15w uv
Berlin classic skimmer powered by another 1060.
About 2-2.5 box fulls of live rock
It seems to be a very efficient setup.
The phosphate level was a bit hiht at the time i had the coral 2-2.5 i think. I think thats why it didnt do that well. Was growing though.
i do have a RO unit.
At the moment i hardly do water changes as the live rock has been there a while now and is proving to do a lot of the work.

What light are you using?
a 4ft arcadia unit. Cant remember if their T5 or T8s. 54w each
2 blues
2 whites
ok, sounds like you prob have enough flow then.
And you are using phos remover, as long as its changed regularly and you are checking phos levels you should be ok with soft corals under that light with your set up
but you really should be doing water changes IMO.
what are your nitrate readings?
but you really should be doing water changes IMO.
what are your nitrate readings?
i do water changes, just not that often at the moment (1 every 2 months) because its not needed. I top up water level every week (2-3 gallons)
But i know if i was to keep corals again i should do them regually to keep the nitrate level down.
The last time i checked the nitrate was about 20 ppm. Bit high for reef but fine for fish.
Muzzy nice www address by the way :whistling: :P
Got any pics of you tank?

Softies should be ok. I would stay away from zoos as blueface can pick on them

website - yeah, heard it all before :D
my tank pics are here (http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=48095)
only been into marines 5 months or so, learnt a lot but still learning
just my 2p's worth, i notice your silicone is quite badly stained, has the tank been treated recently, could this be the problem
i notice your silicone is quite badly stained,
 How can you see that from those pics (not a dig at pic quality by the way)
Ian
Yeh you can see the blue silicone on pic 2 at the bottom of the tank
It was treated but a very long time ago when it had no LR.
i ran poly-filter for a while after and it was copper free. (also removed rocks + gravel)
Well observed :D
Fishytyke from henceforth to be known as "Eagle Eye"
