Here we go we have been running a marine reef system for a year now and decided we dont like our old 4foot tank because of the angled sides.
So we bought a 5x2x2 and 3x15x15 sump.
My husband built the new cabinet and i painted it.

Another boaring bit but had to be done cutting 2 inch pieces of pipe for under egg crate

excentric13
03-10-05, 11:57
24 hours later when silicon set the egg crate goes on
the reason for the gap at front of tank is because we have a blue cheek goby that digs for england

excuse me. what are the " small white circle "??
what do they do ??
I am just a rookie @@

from Taiwan not Thailand .

excentric13
11-10-05, 11:43
The white circles are pipe cut into 1inch pieces then glued to bottom of tank to support egg crate on top of your egg crate you put the live rock so you can get circulation under rock also if you have a fish that digs in the sand it stops land slides hope this helps Val

excentric13
12-10-05, 11:14
Ok this was 4 days ago storing some extra live rock no where else to put it

excentric13
12-10-05, 11:17
we then added some new live sand what a mess didnt take that long to clear.
I also added some sand from old system to get new sand seeded.

excentric13
12-10-05, 11:24
We were having a bit of a mess around deciding what to use as back ground.
I dont know if any of you have tryed this screwed up paper inside black plastic bags the pic does it no justice.
When you look into the tank it looks like caves and black rock it realy looks good
I havent finished it yet.

Oh forgot this was day 7 as you can see it is now full of water

The sump in the left hand compartment is the return pump and bio balls then the next compartmentall bio balls then mirical mud and sand mix and calurpa the next compartment empty not sure what to put there any sugestions ? The right hand compartment has skimmer outlet from tank and a sponge to stop noise from skimmer water.
the piece of tape was to measure the hight of water when testing if we had power cut.

Ok I am being a bit dim today, but you have raised the egg crate off the base so that you can get circulation under the rock work yes??..........But you have now covered it all with sand so the gaps are filled in and the water cant circulate anymore??

Or is it just raised so that the pipe work can get under the rock and then it comes out of the egg crate between the rocks (if you get what I mean)??

excentric13
12-10-05, 12:37
Well to start with the sand was only at the front of tank where there is no eggcrate but the powerheads have blown it all around tank like you said it is mostly for the pipe work to go under. hth Val

I forgot to add that we have a blue cheek gobie that likes to dig a lot he has caused rock slides in other tank so this will help i hope.

Cool its what I thought but just wanted to make sure.

Another quick question then.

Ok this was the day Sunday 16th Oct 2005.
Got up made breakfast and stared at the tank, then started to move sofa and Tv to other room.
Buckets at the ready.
Took 10 gallon of water out of new tank and replace it with water out of old tank,
Took out loose corals and placed them in buckets. drained more water from both tanks and and put old water into new system.
Took out large rocks and built left hand side of tank, some of the large rocks had corals attached to them so built the best way i could trying not to disturbe them.
Whilst all this was beeing done we had the blue attinics on to help see what we were doing.

This was the worst part ever catching the fish. but it was done quite smoothly. we had to take 1 fish to the LFS not to good .
A old watchman gobie looked very thin dont think he will survive.

Let the tank and new inmates settle for a while then turned on the Halides 3x250 god its bright. we only left them on for about 4 hours because they had been used to 150 halides.

and then that was that

Much, much better! Didn't like to say anything about the black background (each to their own and all that!) but I think your tank looks soooooo much better with the blue!

great looking tank - i love the sun coral, do you target feed it?

excentric13
02-11-05, 10:25
we only target feed now and then there is a lot of flow on it so it gets food that way.
we use a turkey baster to feed it.
we have had it over 1 year now and doing great. looking for a black 1 now

I read some things on here that make me cringe when people say they take it out the tank in a container to feed it.
