View Full Version : Weegaz's Trigon 190
going to keep a running record of my tank setup like i did with my last tank, so here is my tank, its a Juwel Trigon 190
i have drilled it for a 32mm tank connector, sump is a 17inch cube tank, i have yet to put the baffles in, but there will be a dsb 12"x17" , a rubble area, return pump is a 3000ltr hailea running into the spray bar under the eggcrate you see which is where the rock work is going to be,
i will be using more than a single piece of 2x2 for inside the cabinet, its just in there to stop the possibility of any sagging occuring while its sat on top of it with the middle support out
i am awaiting an SEIO M1500 arriving from singapore, still to cement my pipework, but need to further mod the spray bar for better flow
lighting is an aquamedic ocean light 150w with a 14k bulb, which will go on hanging brackets, actinics are a mix of 2 T8 tubes, one is an arcadia actinic, and the other is a hagen marine blue, the marine blue gives off a nice blue, while the arcadia i have noticed flouresces corals better, but gives off a pinkish light, tank backing will be painted blue
sump will be lit at first by a 18w marine glow T8 until i can afford something better
skimmer i have yet to sort out yet, and i want to build a calcium reactor later down the line when i start with hard corals, the tank will be mainly SPS as it will have around 50 times turnover, if i require more then i will add a scwd to a closed loop system

That's going to look great! I had a Trigon 190 and always wished I had done it with a sump.
Good luck with it!
How much LR are you going to put in? What skimmer are you going to go for?

probably just over the 20kilo mark with regards to rock, will also have a load of rubble in the first compartment of the sump for the water to pass by, with regards to the skimmer, i would like an mce600 or mc500, but it will depend on what i can afford at the time, also dont have a great deal of room in the cabinet, so a hang on to the sump skimmer would be ideal
Is that the Hailea 100w pump?

That looks like a duvet cover.
Interesting bed time - a book on fishes, a 100w pump and a tube of silicone. Does the wife get involved or is it just you? ;)

no wife, hence why i can leave pumps and books and other associated reefing stuff lying about anywhere until i finish this tank off

Looking good - I like the corner tanks :D
corners tank, always nice
how do you manage water flow?
:thanx:
i am waiting for a seio m1500 coming from singapore, once that is added to the tank it and the return pump will have a turnover of around 8500ltrs an hour, which is near 50x an hour after displacment, if i require anymore i will setup a closed loop on a scwd later down the line

you having yours drilled for a sump jimbo? if i was to do it again i would go for a 16" sump to give me a little more room to strengthen the cabinet and fit in other equiptment
I noticed that you drilled the tank, are you planning on putting in a weir of some kind into the tank? Or are you just gonna let the water flow straight down the overflow?

No m8 im not going for the sump,i nee the space underneath for my Ehiem, auto top off and bits and bobs
did a further bit of modding on the spray bar to make sure there are no dead spots of flow, just got to cement all the piping and put the black sleeve over the vertical pipe, will hopefully start the siliconing on wednesday/thursday once i get the glass for the sump cut, then get the back painted

Drill through the wall and stick it out there.

i will be putting a small box type overflow over the drain, will be using the original juwel filter hacked to pieces to form the overflow box

my flats not exactly huge so a small system more than suits my needs, besides, big doesnt always mean best, bulldog proved that with his cube tank ;)

ok, got a bit more progress done on the tank and sump, fitted the glass baffles to the sump which is on its side in the pics, just waiting for the silicon to cure then will put it in the cabinet, and i have painted the back of the tank in B&Q rich blue

not really had a chance to get much done with work, in the process of drilling the spray bar for its flow into the rock and an anti siphon hole, got today off but pretty busy, also just waiting on my seio till i can start setting up, then will order my RO unit, need to figure out a method of auto top-up

Garry was the tank already drilled to take a sump when you bought it, id love a sump in mins still a novice when it comes to sumps havnt realy a clue abt return pumps and the like so would be brill to buy second hand and its all done for you, i know you wont want to talk money but did you get it for a good price.

Hi weegaz22,

Your tank is going to look great, some times I look back and wish I had added a sump
There is a method behind my madness, as this gives me a good excuse to upgrade to a larger tank later on :whistling: .
A couple of pics of my set up minus sump
I now have some fishies and corals in the tank (not in these pix)

Hi,
Looking great!
I'm very interested in this thread cause I've just bought a 190 and am in the process of setting it up similar to yours with a sump in the cabinet (though taken your advice and gone for a 16" cube).
I hope you don't mind if I bombard you with questions but interested to see how you've done things and whether you'd suggest alternatives if you did it again -
How have you stuck the overflow box to the tank?
Where is the return from the sump - notice in previous posts you were going to use a spray bar under rock but can't see it in new photos?
Are you just having one powerhead? Will it be in it's current position behind the rock structure, if so what happens if it needs servicing?
Did you sort out the noise issues with the pipework?
Thanks
Karen
if i was to do it again i would use a smaller return pump as i have had to throttle this one back a fair bit, probably an eheim 1060 or something compared to the 3000ltr hailea
the reason you cant see the white pipework is becuase i have put a black 25mm pvc sleeve over it where it is running down the back corner, but the spraybar is still there
the overflow box was just siliconed onto the glass
the powerhead is just in there for circulation while i await my 6000ltr seio arriving, then it will be removed
as for the noise issues, i have got it a lot quieter than when i first turned the pump on, but im still fine tuning it
and im very impressed with the mc 500
Why is there an upside down glass tumbler in your sump? :whistling:
i put a piece of mussle in there to kick start the cycle, i was also messing about with flow adjustment through the sump so didnt want it getting swept away, so i put it under a tumbler, also want to see if any pods or life would appear

Carl....
Hi Gaz, Could you give me a link or any information about your Hailea return pump, I can only find hailea air pumps. Thanks in advance.
Matt
i got them from this ebay shop
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Froden-Aquatics
Looking good Gaz...was thinking i may put a sump in mine after christmas..but now im thinking bigger  keep the pics coming m8
reason i like the trigon is that its not huge and fits into my flat nicely, just wanted to make it as good as possible, rather have a great small system than an average looking big tank

Hi weegaz22,
Just a quickie, How did you get around the actinics?
I notice you were using the original center bar at first. In the later pix you have the M/H on but I cant see the actincs?
If you are still using the centre bar it's going well as I cannot see a shadows casting from the centre bar.
Hope that makes sense.
Cheers
Carl ;o)
yep, im using the standard i bar with arcadia reflectors, its pulled all the way forward so it only casts a slights shadow at the very front of the bow, im using one arcadia actinic and a hagen marine glow
reason i mixed the 2 is that the arcadia seems to flouresce the colours of the corals better but ithas a horrible pinky purpley colour to it, the hagen is a nice blue but crap at florescing corals, so mixing the 2 give me a better look IMO
Looking very nice indeed
I'm following this one with interest as it's looking like my new tank next year will be an Aqua One Windsor 66 which is about the same size as the Trigon 190 and I will be playing with the cabinet to squeeze a sump in
Cheers
Steve
added another 8 kilo's of rock today, tank will need probably another 8 to make it look decent, will try and get a pic up later, sand is crawling with copepods and other life, going through a bit of a green algae phase as my seio still hasnt arrived so only have around 2000 ltrs an hour turnover
Sweeeet weegaz.
I look forward to more pics!
I love my trigon!!
Congrats on fitting a sump, didnt think it was practicle with a 190, but you proved me very wrong
