I am currently looking at skimmer options should I decide to go ahead with my next project - a hole-in-the-wall aquarium with a total system volume of around 6000L. Possible skimmers for something that size would seem to include:

- AquaCare Flotor 11000-180A;
- Aqua Connect Externa 6000;
- Aqua Medic Turbofloter 10000;
- ATK Venturi I;
- Deltec AP1006;
- GroTech HEA300;
- Ratz Neptune;
- Royal Exclusiv Bubble King 650;
- Sander Helgoland;
- Schuran Aquaflotor AQ300.

If any UR members have experience of these particular models I would be very grateful for any feedback you might have. :thumbsup:

Thanks,

Keith

Thanks Steve, I did look at this but their range seems to jump from skimmers for a max 5000L to one for 20000L - with nothing inbetween? :blink:

keep away from the tmc skimmers there are not what they are cracked up to be i got a deltec1004 running in conjunction with a tmc commercial the first one is awesome it is on a 3000 ltr system and skimms mint with added pump this would cope well with most systems

Thanks for this bigbok - from what you say I think TMC is out of the running.

Know lots of happy Deltec owners (including me), and I'm also attracted by the automatic self-cleaning cup accessory you can get for the larger models.

I realise a number of the other brands/models listed are rare in UK or not even distributed here but there must be some Deltec AP1006, or Aqua Medic Turbofloter 10000 owners out there? Would still love to hear from you...

Nip over to the zeovit forum (zeovit.com) and ask a few questions bout the brands of skimmers your looking at, if you can get them to stop raving about bubblekings for 5 minutes you may get some good info.

What about two smaller skimmers instead? I looked into these ones for mine but opted for a pair of Deltec 902s as it worked out cheaper. The other advantage is not having all your eggs in one basket, as well as enabling one to be taken offline for cleaning.

deltec is a really good choice. two smaller ap's is a good idea. i have seen a ap 1006 working and its a beast of a skimmer.

Where possible I was planning to split up the most critical functions (i.e. sump and circulation pumps, heating, cooling, etc) and have them running on separate power circuits. That way I wouldn't loose everything if something on a circuit tripped, just half. It hadn't occured to me to split the skimming as it didn't seem quite so critical, but no reason why I couldn't now that I think about it.

Thanks Tuan - a nice bit of lateral thinking and well worth considering. :thumbsup:

By the way, can someone tell me which model Eheim pumps Deltec use on the larger skimmers? They seem to use the same one on all the larger skimmers and I want to work out the power consumption.

Thanks,

Keith

I think they're 1262s.

Tuans right, all new deltecs that have eheims now have 1262's - older models had 1060's.

They use 1060 pumps rated at 50 watt,
