View Full Version : Salt Salt Salt
I have recently seen my local LFS add a Seachem liquid to the salt before they mixed with water. After some research found that people add various thing like Epsom Salt, Kalk and all sorts of trace elements to the salt before they added it to the water.
It may just be me but I never did that  is it normal practice to add additives to the salt to enhance and increase the quality of the salt before it is mixed.
 I guess it sort of makes sense. Does anybody add addictives to the salt before they mix it? and if so what do u add and how much do you add??
I don't add anything to the salt, if you buy decent salt in the first place you shouldn't need to.
I add stuff to the top up water (kalk and calcium supplements) and that's all
Ive been folowing the salt testing thread closely and i have changed from Tropic Marine to Reef Crystals, from the results it does seem to be a much beter quality salt
like the duck sais its should'nt be nessesary.......but ive yet to find a salt that IMO dos'nt need tweaking a bit.......but then i am a fussy git.
Ditto re. the reef crystals.......tho ive just bought a load of aquamedic stuff after i tried a sample......Ca and Mg much higher, good if you have no reactor.

What salt do you use then? I have yet to find a salt that is "Perfect" in Calcium, Magnesium ect ect
Reef Crystals, it's never perfect but by the time it's mixed with the rest of the tank water it's never far off and the supplements in the RO top up water keep it stable

Try Korallen Zucht salt. This salt comes with additional magnesium and calcium to tweek the mix. Ive just started to use it and havent done any testss but the idea seems promising.
so who stocks that then ?.....never heard of it.
If u search it on Google it comes up in europe and 20kg is quite cheap
