Aside from the commercial Mg++ supplements, does anyone use anything else? For example magnesium chloride? And what about trace elements, whilst on the subject?

I use Lugol's reagent for my iodine supplement (the bottle will last for many moons) and am not happy to pay over the odds for a very dilute magnesium / trace element solution!

i ordered in 2kgs of magnesium sulphate from my local chemist for £4 and used that approx 3 months ago.
added the correct amount to pure ro (as per andy hipskis calculator) and it did the job....i was chicken though and only raised abit a day over four days.
that was approx 4 or 5 months ago and have not seen any problems since.

I've used MgCl from Labpak with no problems - also used Andy's calculator and also a wimp by adding slowly ;)

I have used Mg Chloride and Mg Sulphate from Labpak, mixed 7.35 : 1 by weight, to keep Chloride & Sulphate ions in NSW ratio - as per Andy Hipkiss site.
Mixed in RO water and used in place of auto-topup to give 50ppm max rise in Mg per day.
If I was using only 1 chemical, MgCl would be preferred as the relative increase in Chloride ions is far less than the relative increase in Sulphide ions would be for the same Mg dose.

That was several months ago and Mg has been very stable since (handled by water changes alone ?)

I rely on water changes to maintain my trace elements.

Excellent! Just what I hoped to hear and saves me many hours revising my inorganic chemistry!

Thanks for the advice.
