Hello.

I've been having problems with my dKH on my main tank and this has prompted me to by some extra test kits, phosphate being one that I didn't have.

I tested my perc 120 and it showed only small traces of phosphates (normal) according to the kit, great. I then tested my two nano tanks one almost two years old, and one about 9 weeks old.....wow, both were off the scale 3.00ppm +.

Both have small amounts of Rowaphos in bags in external filters, but this doesn't seem to be doing anything, so ive ordered some aqua medic antiphos, to see if that helps.

So, my questions are,

will a 50% water change on these tanks help?

Has anyone had good results (or bad) with antiphos?

And finally, why, if phosphates are so bad are my softies and mushrooms growing like mad in these tanks??????

 J

if the levels are really 3.00ppm+ (what test kit btw?) then you may need more rowaphos to get it down - i.e. the small amount you've added may have been exhausted mopping up some of what's there and you now need more.

i've no experience of antiphos, but can't see it doing any better job than rowa TBH - rowa is considered to do the job well.

a couple of 25% water changes would definitely help (n.b. assuming the incoming water is 0 phosphate....) - probably better to do than one 50% just to cause less shock imo ?

Thanks Marc

Im gonna start water changes tonight, the antiphos arrived this morning, so that can go in as well.

BTW its a salifert kit.

I'll post the results.

Cheers J
