View Full Version : Strontium - Yes Or No?
Does anyone add strontium to their reef systems, it’s not a supplement I use as I assume this is replaced in adequate quantities via water changes and via the calcium reactor.
Any thoughts?
Cheers
I would have thought that strontium levels would be adequately maintained in the aquarium through water changes, and the inputs from the calcium reactor and fish food.
I wouldn't consider additives unless I had measured the strontium level in the aquarium and found them to be significantly less than NSW (~ 8 ppm).
Even then I would try to find why the strontium level was depressed and fix the cause, rather than try to cure the symptoms.

No I don't..
Unless I had a strontium test kit I certainly wouldn't add it.
What exactly would a strontium deficiency mean to the aquarium?
yes i do,
Dont do many water changes and think some things are necessary.
Hi craig
Could you expand on that?
Cheers
Graham :)
no not scientifically, basically from day one I have added strontium many years ago. Its one of those substances that I add, I also add Iodine which many dont.
Whenever I've tested for both my levels have been very low, so I cant see any harm in adding it, then again it might not be of any benefit but I wouldnt know cause its all I've ever done.
There is so much about the sea we dont know than weh I do know of something that is present in natural seawater and I can relatively safely add it then I try to.
By no means am I saying everyone should add it, I just replying to a post stating that yes I do add it.
