View Full Version : Bangii Eggs
I think that my Bangiis are going to be more than two very shortly. Well 20 - 28 days or so.
Here are both Bangiis. Not a very good picture but the best of the bunch.

They have never strayed very far from each other in the couple of weeks that I have had them.
Here is the male, with what I hope is an extend jaw. I only spotted this late last night after the whites went out, so woll take more pictures tonight. Hence the black and white photo.

Any suggestions and help is greatly appreciated.

Was there any signs of "carrying" by the female? Did she have a distended belly?
Good luck with them!!
Kev
hi, if the male has eggs he wont eat untill they are old enough to release this is asure sign he has a mouth full of eggs.if you have him a reef not many of the young may survive,i had the same trouble with mine but managed to net him before he released the fry, then grew the fry on in 20 litre buckets with just a heater & sponge filter hope this helps & good luck
dave
Thanks for your replies.
Arctic, unfortunately, I was away when a lot of this happened so I am not sure if the female was distended.
Dave, the male is not eating and has not done so for some time now. I can see him moving the egg ball around in his mouth so it sould prove interesting.
Hopefully, I will be getting 2 longspined urchins in the next week, just in time for the release. This should happen around the 4/6th December, so watch this space.
Thanks again
Steve
Good luch with yours he looks like he has a mouthful  , my male has swallowed his on all 6 attemtps so far. He usually lasts for about 5 days andthen opts for the easy meal

Great idea. Will give it a go
Nice work...
Dave H,
Any chance of some photos, I am not sure which way to go yet. The live route or the milli route?
Where did you place it in your tank?

hi,i managed to catch the male before he released the fry in my reef tank, but the batches after that, the pair had been moved to a seperate tank i found that as soon as the female was ready to release her eggs again all the fry were eaten by the male.so this is where i used the artifical urchin all the fry would dart into it so i could net the fry & the milliput urchin together then remove them to 20 litre buckets to grow on.
Thats cool thanks for the info.

Well Folks,
It has been a while since I last updated.
The good news is that I ahve now got 6 babies swimming in the Sump. Was away at the time that they hatched so never saw them swimming in the Urchin :(
Here is a picture of the six at 6 days old.

Here is a picture of three of them at 8 days. I still have all six, they were just not close in a group to take the picture.

And then finally a single baby close up.

They live in the sump and are fed on Baby Brine Shrimp 4 times a day, but I feel that they are eating what there is available in the sump too.
