Hi all - I've asked loads of people about this, including Habib on ReefCentral, but haven't got a plausible answer yet.

Basically, I am getting a Mag reading of over 1500ppm. I use ReefCrystals, the last batch of which measured 1300ppm with the same kit (Salifert). Since doing a 15% water change with the mix of lower value however, the level has not dropped.

SG is 1.025 in tank and mix (at same temp). KH in tank is a tad low I think at 2.5meq/l. Calcium is approx 400ppm (again using Salifert test kits). I don't add anything apart from Kalk (AquaMedic brand) dripped overnight occasionally - RO at other times for top up at less than 5ppm TDS. I add 1ml of Iodine and a few drops of stront/molbyd approx once a month. I used to add Kent Osmo Prep Marine to my top up RO to 'reconstitute' it, but stopped doing this months ago.

Any ideas what is going on here?
Is a high Mag level harmful?

OK I think I have this sussed now with help of Habib on RC - high Mag is possibly a remnant from use of this product:

kent osmo prep (http://www.kentmarine.com/saltwater/opm.html)

I used it for a few months way back when i first set-up as a way of reconsituting my top up water (yeah I know!). Funny that such a high level still remains though after all this time.

Worth knowing if you have low mag levels though I guess. ;)
