Can't comment on the IKS but I have had the Aquatronica for a couple of weeks now and find it really easy to use (I am diy / computer thick) and to set up.

I've an IKS pro and it's OK, but if I was starting over I'd go for the Aquatronica.

aquatronic cheaper and you own it not rent it for a couple years , you havnt got loads wires comeing out if the main display screen and the one wire that does go into the display screen can connect to the side or to the rear meaning you dont have to buy an external display.
plus more upgrades are on there way.

Where is the best place (price) to get an aquatronica ?

they should be the same price where every you go , as they are not allowed to be advertised at a lower price than specified by the manufactors. you may get a discount from your lfs if your a valid customer or you buy bulk amount of equipment

Buying the aquatronica is phase one of my big plan, I have brought this to control my cal/co2 but the reactor i'm gonna buy is going to be oversized (for my furture tank). I going to keep this up til i have almost everything i need. Then i won't seem so bad when i bring home the 6 footer.

i know i've missed the boat but i'd just like to add my voice to the crowd. The IKS measures up very poorly compared to the aquatronica. Not only is it more expensive, but has a much reduced program functionality:

Supposing you wanted to put your refugarium lights on a timer, but also to turn them off if the water temp overheated? You can't with an IKS and can with an aquatronica.

There is a degree of sour grapes here because the aquatronica came out about a month after i bought my IKS system. I'm still crying myself to sleep.

Ah, do the price fixing laws not apply to this manufacturer then ? :whistling:

A quick read of the Office of fair trading website states that it can impose a fine of 10 % of company turnover for breaches. It certain cases, it is a criminal offence with prison sentances for punishment.

Obviously we don't know the full circumstances here, and this is merely an example of what has happened to other companies.

That last post is very interesting.

I know that a UR member spent quite some time phoning around the various resellers trying to get a decent price on one of these. He got the same story from all of them - "We can't discount it - Aquatronica won't let us"

Didn't know there was a law against it - do you think they do???

Just been looking at the two .......................

The IKS first looked very good ( albeit expensive for the addons )

I think i will have to opt for the Aquatronica. :D :D

Parts list is much cheaper. nice and tidy bit of kit....

Anyone got the software for it so i can have a look

To be honest, I don't know the exact ins and outs of the laws. Perhaps someone with more knowledge would be able to enlighten us !

i was also under the impression that price fixing is a no no as its all about competition but where would you stand as a paying customer?

i'm getting near the full kit soon but i dont think any discount is on the cards even though its going over 600 notes!!

its not price fixing ,there just ensuring that each retailer gets a fair deal. with things like the internet theres always someone underpricing everyone else . they are saying they dont want retailers to advertise a lower price wether its the price on the box in the shop or over the internet however the retailer can use his discrestion and do a deal with a custimer who is spending a fair amount or is loyal ect .
besides every one has already comented how much better than iks it is and how much cheaper so why expect to get it even more cheaper?
