Hi All

Today was a big day in the seahorse Tank

About 9.30 this morning our male opened his pouch and released over a hundred perfect minitures into the main tank.

We have removed around half into a home built fry tank, one section for the fry and four others for rotifer and brine hatching.

They are in "green" water at the moment so lets hope i can get atleast a hand full to a good size.

If anyone has any advice or experiance on raising seahorse fry your thoughts and comments will be gladly accepted.

(Truth is we need as much help as possible)

Thanks

Chris

You can also find information on keeping and breeding sesahorses here (http://www.seahorse.org/) if you don't already know about it.

If you have time please read this thread reidi fry rearing thread (http://forum.seahorse.org/index.php?showtopic=8203). Its long but is a step by step guide of one ladys learning experiance of raising fry, and shows mistakes made, advice given etc, etc. I cannot reccomend enough that you set aside an hour of so to go through it as it is full of great info

Hi all

Well i never thought it would be so hard to get these little blighters to grow :)

The first lot we unfortunatly lost all after about 5 days, every thing seem to be going fine and then suddenly all either floated or sank ??? i think the rottifers when not right.

Anyway about 12 days after the first lot where born the male started to hide behind the rocks again as he did when first carrying, you can not imagine our supprise when 16 days after releasing the first fry along came another load, unfortunately we did not realise that once a pair has matched and mated thats is the mate every two weeks!!!!!!

Not been ready this time it was a mad rush to try and get all the cultures going again, managed to keep 6 alive from this batch, they are now quite happliy taking fresh hatched brine shrimp and are aroung 16 - 18mm in height.

Oh yes and of course today was another good one, of course he's been hiding for the last couple of days, this morning before going to work i noticed he was swimming up and down the front of the tank nodding his head up and down quite rapidly this progressed into a quick side to side movement that continued for about 20 mins.

It was a truly AWSOME sight as he opened his pouch and contractions squirted out the fry

He contracted 4 times and sent out what must be another 150 + babys

Oh well here we go again, what a hard life been a reidi keeper is

I notice you go to work, which makes the feeding a bit difficult, have you tried the hang on brine shrimp hatchery, keeps a steady supply going while your not there. I remember my first hatch, it seemed more work than feeding a newborn baby, but worth every second when they start to grow and are easier to feed. Mike
