Chumpy

Hi
I'm keen to have a go at trying to breed something.... yes... something....

I was considering Clowns, but they seem like a lot of work, culturing Phyto, then rotifers etc., even after they spawn.

I would like to have a go at culturing Cleaner Shrimp, or Peppermint Shrimp, but I'm not sure how much work is involved.

Has anyone ever tried to culture shrimp??
Is there anything else I should consider?

Thanks

nearly every marine organism is "hard work" mainly as most have planktonic larval atages, requiring suitable planktonic live foods.
shrimps are fairly easy to get to spawn, while clownfish can be near impossible at times then go on a solid spawning cycle for months. the shrimp larvae may be a bit harder to raise.
as a first attempt at breeding a marine species you could try one of the cardinalfish species. as these are live bearers, and will take newly hatched brineshrimp from birth.
other possible fish that you could try as starter fish are the neon goby and pretty much any of the small gobies will spawn in captivity.

however the problem still relates to larval nutrition.
