View Full Version : Brown Algae On Acro?

hi there,

I got a lovely white acro before Xmas, just noticed some small brown patches of algae on one side of the branches. It appears to be getting slowly worse.

I can still see polyps on the acro.

I also got a gonipora a few weeks back which hasn't come out today :(

I think my params are ok, the nitrate may be higher than I think, struggling to read the salifert test kits accurately. All test results in my sig below.

I'll do some more tests tomorrow in daylight.

Based on this and the fact I lost the odd frag recently I've done some long hard thinking, and I removed the sponges from my pumps last weekend and also some bioballs, with a view to removing them all and replacing that area with LR rubble.

Any ideas what causes the algae and if I can fix it?

Pics to follow!

regards

greg

all params look good I sugest you need more flow

its about 12" from a Tunze 6100, and about 2" off to the side of it, so it get knocked off if it had any more flow!

I've actually turned the Tunze down to about 80%...

Pics as promised

How's your pH and temp stability?

Not getting any large drops at night? Something to check if you haven't already.

ph hits a max of 8.27 then drops to a min of 7.99

temp fluctuates by one degree C, it's a heater chiller I have which seems to do a decent job.

Greg

Hmm - not that then :(

Maybe it was just not meant to be - not sure you could do anything else as regards
params?

The goniopora looks quite badly receded - I think they can be tricky to keep alive in tanks.

Acro might pull through tho. may be worth gently flushing off the algae with a turkey baster. It's definitley algae is it? Looks a bit like the tips colouring up from the photo.
