My tank will be approx 1100 lts with sand bed approx 150-180kg live rock ££ !!! it will have 2 x seio 2200 each giving 10,000lts water movement and 3x 2000lts power heads behind lr (for water movement) then into sump72"lx17"hx12"w down bio pyramids(same as balls but differant shape) up ceramic rings over dsb throu empty3" space(more filteration if required) throu skimmer tunes 240/3 space for at side tunes 9210 if required. Then to return pump at moment got a ocean runner 3500 the question is will I need two ? thanks......Brian

will the crud not get stuck in the bio balls instead of dropping out of the flow over the DSB? and do you even need the bio balls with all that rock?

wouldnt it be better to skim where the bio balls are so the DSB life makes it back to the tank?

as for flow.....i dont belive in huge sump to tank flow rates but yours at 3 times tank volume (less head) sounds quite low.

If you're in the design stages, I'd consider putting the skimmer first. Otherwise any beneficial critters that breed in the DSB area won't make it back to the tank.

Ideally, when running DSB you shouldnt have 'any' bio media either before or after the DSB area. (id use latter compartments as a Fuge for algae to be honest).

Personally, id go as follows........the first compartment should be your skimmer take off point, then to DSB, then to Algae, then to return pump.

Keep it simple, keep it sweet.:)
