I thought htis was fine at first? but then noticed that the hystrix polyps closed up. then looked like the hystrix was bleeaching. so i've just taken the hystrix out and got the crab off with a pair of twesers. what i need to kno is it just because its on the hystrix? or is it a bad crab?

We have 2 acro crabs in our hysterix and they cause the coral no problems at all. In fact they actually attack anything that goes near the coral to protect their home.

It might be coincidence that the hysterix has shown signs of stress at the same time as the crab moved in, on the other hand it might be causing the problems. Try putting the crab back in it's original coral and keep a close eye on the hysterix. It might move again (ours left it's original home in a stylophora and set up shack with the resident hysterix crab. It must have been love!)

Good Luck
