hi
, not sure if this is the right place to ask this but does anyone know how to sex them? and if so can i add the other sex to an established tank? or do they need to be added together? and finally do they get on with firefish?
the tanks 6x 1 1/2x 2 with a big sump. not sure of exact gallonage.
many thanks steve
Yes, I was also thinking of getting an o.d. or 2 and purple or normal firefish, so I'd be interested in anyone's experience, too. Might get a response in Reefs?
Hi
I have just one Orchid Dottyback and also a firefish and there is no problem at all. I do not know about adding another O.D though or even how to tell the diference of the sexes.
Regards, George.
Apparently, sexing the orchid dottyback is all in the shape of the colour in the tail. I think (and I may well be wrong) the female has a purple round tail, and the male has a a diagonal slash of purple and clear on the rest.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Consider PM'ing Clayton at Reefworks - he breeds them.

Hi,
Here is a link to an article, note the pointed tail of the male in the top picture, the females is round.

I have a pair that are constanly spawning, the male gives a marvellous display, when courting the female.
