Hi- can anyone tell me why the 2 clowns in my tank have developed a sort of blackish 'staining' on the top of their bodies? They are bright orange as they should be lower down.
It is a fish-only system using treated tap water, the clowns are tank-bred, have a varied diet, seem perfectly healthy and PH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels are fine. the lighting is a small T5 unit.

This is quite often a sighn of maturity in percula / common clowns IIRC.

It can also be parasites or patches of pigments, it is rarely a problem
