anyone any ideas on the best heating system for a largish tank??
have seen a stainless 1000w weipro heater in my local lfs, but not heard anything about them....
anyone any ideas??

I am hoping to run an aquatronica ...eventually if my tank build/rebuild doesnt bankrupt me first!

I have a pair of 300w heaters on my largish (1300 litre) tank and they manage fine

Im only running 300 watter on my 1000 ish litre tank, might have to bump it up to another 200 watt come winter.
Dont go to mad with a heater mate as if it sticks on..........
Better to go for two smaller ones.

depends on how large your tank is... titanium heat exchangers for very large tanks... or schego titanium heaters for smaller tanks

yeah - I always tend to run 2 smaller heaters, but just saw this big one with electronic controller and got all tempted..

IMO, I've had numerous weirpro products and even though a friend of mine imports these (so I should be bias and say "they're great") thy're not. Avoid!

FWIW

I dont think i have ever seen a post from someone complaining their tank is too cold or they have problems maintaining temp.

Personally i would spend as little as practical on heating.

I used 300w for a 750 litre system and i dont recall it ever being on apart from when i first filled the tank.

I would recommend two smaller units simply because if they do come on and one fails it will take a lot longer to boil the tank.

if the aquatronica takes care of the external thrermostat you could go for a pair of 500w schego titniums without inbuilt thermostats.

depeds how much you trust the aquatronica.

or go for a pair of glass vistherms largest 300w, but dont EVER rely on the inbuilt thermostats.

Unless it's HUGE I would go for multiple 300 watt heaters all on an external 'stat. Visitherms are the ones we use, just set their internal 'stat a bit high.

The Aquatronica would do a good job, if the load is too high just use a contactor.

One tip: make certain that you can't accidentally pull the temperature probe out of the water. It's not good using your tank to try and heat the room:o

i guess it also depends if you are using halides, if you do then the heater wont be on very much so i would have thought 2 x 300 watts will be ample for anything up to 1000litres
