View Full Version : what kind of filter for a breeding tank?
What kind of filter do you suggest that won't suck up or harm the fry in other ways??
We talking young newly hatched larvae here? If yes just an airstone or 2, and daily water changes.
If you mean older young after meta, sponge filters can be added when the fry are large enough. these should be 'seeded' in your sump or something prior to being used.
If you mean the tank with the parents in, it needs the whole bag of mashins!! They require alot of food to give off healthy and large clutches, so filtration needs to cope. Personally i use a trickle tower, deep sand bed and a large skimmer on a central sump system. Plan to add a large sand filter once a little money is got back from them.
Treat it as you would your reef, though water doesnt have to be 'coral quality' though use of LR is a very exspensive way to go as these systems can get to be silly gallonage in no time at all.
HTH and keep the questions coming. Much better to find out now than after!
