Do I need to use a contactor on my Aquatronica plug bar to switch my
2 x 150w halides on?

Cheers

Not sure if you need one but for the price they cost it'll put less load on your investment!

I do. I believe they will switch halides on and off, but I'm not prepared to risk it for the relative costs (contacter vs plugbar!)

AFAIK you do not need one.

I think aquatronica have changed the plug bars two, I think they upgraded the relay. My new plug bars make a different switching noise to my old ones :)

I use a plug bar that switches on 2x250w halides and haven't had a problem (touch wood)

Why dont you contact aquatronica and ask them if you can run MH off them without problems?

as per phyto..for the sake of £30.. why risk it?
