Plugbars???

Ok, new to the marine world so shoot me down if you want but WTF is a plugbar???

I see people selling them, I see people discussing them and I have even tried to read up on them without much success.

What is it for?
Whats are it's advantages?

Plugbars are associated with computers.

As an example I have two plug bars with everything on them. These are connected to an Aquatronica computer which allows me to program all the plugs in the bar and thus control all the equipment in the tank how i want.
