got a good few sps frags but over the last week a couple of the tips on 2 have went brown, only the last couple of mm on them also few air bubbles on these tips, all parameters are good, plenty turnover and 250 halide, temp as stable as can be - 2 fans running most of the time atm,im wondering if there is a cause for this or could it be a number of factors? sps seems so frustrating to me at times.

still need a list of parameters bud, they may seem good to you but there may be something obvious to others !!

and what temp is the stabe temp at ?

Sounds like the growth tips (the most sensitive parts) have died off, can you get a picture?

dkh 10.2
calcium 420
mag 1350

temp now 27.8 probably a 1.5deg swing from morning although can be very slightly higher as running around 26-26.2 in morning atm
ph now 8.19
phos 0.03

my cameras not working :( ,could it be the temp swing causing it?
would i be better clipping the tops off to the good tissue below?

mmm you actualy getting a reading of phosphate or being conservative ?

and how do you measure the temp ? digitaly or liquid thermometer ?

yeah got the deltec kit and tested yesterday at 0.03,running rowa and cant get it lower, checked ro water etc been at this for a while(since ive had the deltec kit)
temp have 2 digital thermometers and there is only .2 in it (same one always seems .2 higher)so im thinking im getting a good reading, have a liquid 1 in tank and ties in with digital, just seems to be acropora as 2 frags of millipora both ok.

I'd go along with that too. I had that with a couple of acro's when I've first got them. I siphoned the bubbles and brown stuff off and they're fine now.

Millipora are acropora species (acropora millipora) so may not be species related.

I know i may be stating the obvious Mark but are the affected areas anywhere near direct flow from your stream ?

hmm
one is nearish the stream but thought it was far enough from the flow,in a perc 90 its not 2 easy with space, ill possibly move this 1 if no signs of improvement in the next few days, too much direct flow maybe? i thought that would have stripped it rather than whats happening? going on what ive read on here but good point,
thanks for the input as always guys

I have had a few probs in the past with this and i thought corals were far enough away, move it and it might make the difference as your parameters all look ok.

Hi Mark

Maybe it's just a change thing. remember our tank has had a seriously low KH for what seems like forever!!! We're getting back on track but are only just getting up to 7dKH now, it has been as low as 5. Perhaps the corals have been used to the lower levels of ca and Alk and have just stressed a bit going into higher levels although you would think they would be happier in better conditions.

I would snip off the damage - will make them branch more when they start to grow.

Also our temp is going between 26.5 and 28 which is similar to you so shouldn't be a factor.

Hope they recover ok
