View Full Version : PH Probe Gone Nuts!!
The PH probe attatched to my aquatronica has gone mental.
It is saying my tank Ph is 2!!!
I have recalibrated it which was fine and it reads the calibration stuff ok. Just when I put it back in the tank I get 2!!
Any ideas?
Found out what it is!!!
If I fully submerse the probe it I get a reading of 1 but if I only 1/2 submerse it I get a decent reading.
I thought these were submursible?? it has worked fine for 3+ weeks!
MD ??
By probe do you mean the whole unit or just the glass vial ?
Most pH probes shouldn't be submersed entirely. The connections often aren't sealed too well, or at least it's best not to test them !
Maybe you have a small leak, or the damp connecting wires set up a small potential - enough to make the reading very wonky.
Best to find out direct from Aquatronica.

Any probe is not fully submersible the top should never get wet, water will get down into the electrical contact and mix with the KCL hense the bad reading.
There is no way of rectifiying one this happens
Sorry for the bad news

I was un aware of that :(
You should get it put on the box/note inside ;)
If you go to your local LFS and purchase a probe, in the box there is also no reference to this, maybe it is an industry failing.
Point taken and noted.

I emailed Aquatronica about this and they suggested theirs could be fully submersed.
I personally would not recommend it but if aqautronica say theyres can well go for it, but knowing what the internal construction is I would be quite concerned
just think it is an electrical short, I dont think tank water has mixed with the solution inside as it is reading ok now :)
