I'm squeezing a 32"x6"x6" tank on top of my sump but I'm still undecided on what to put in it!!

I guess my main aim is nutrient export to help combat my high nitrates (although it's coming down now anyway). So which do you think would be most beneficial to my system out of these suggestions:-

1. 5" sand bed.

2. 2-3" sand bed with calerpa.

3. Mud with calerpa.

Or can anyone think of any other alternatives?

Cheers
Jon

Frags and put the proceeds towards a Nitrate Reducer ?

Like the idea, I've already got a nitrate reducer, but I want to give the remote deep sand bed more of a chance before doing that.

Frag tank is still a possibility, the trouble is it's in a place that's a bit of a pain to get to so maintenence, even such as cleaning the glass to see how everything's going will be a chore, so may get neglected (I get lazy at times).......

Anyone else? Mud or sand???

What have you currently got in your sump? Do you have an existing nutrient export mechanism?
Understanding what each of your options actually does will help make the decision - not meant in a flippant way, just that they perform different functions so picking the right one will be easier if you work out what exactly you want it to do.

How big (area) would the DSB be?
