Hi
Can anyone tell me what the advantages are of having a varible plug bar as oppose to a standard one on the IKS pro system. I am abit unsure as to if i need one for my system. I am going to run PH probe in calcuim reactor, and the usual stuff possible tunze steam set up as well.

Thanks

I believe it allows you to dim lights and slow down pumps etc.

yes but it does not allow you to dim MH lighting does it?? so whats the point. Would it allow you to control Tunze streams? or is it just a waste of time/money. Should I just buy standard one?

No it wont let you dim MH;s but it will let you dim T5's so you can get a dusk\dawn effect and even LED moonlights so you can get a lunar cycle :)

It would also let you controll fans so you didnt have to run them at full pelt, you could build them up, the possibilities are endless :)

In theory it should let you controll streams :)

I don't think you'll be able to control Streams from it. The variable speed ones have a transformer and don't run directly from the mains.

Ahh good point, you should be able to control maxijets or even seio's as long as you dont drop the power below 30% but i am not sure how the IKS works in that respect.

In answer to you question about should you bother, it depends what you want to achive. I know that if Aquatronica made a variable output bar I would definatly get one :)

I've run Tunze Streams (6000, 6100) and Classic (4002, 2002) pumps, plus the IKS equivalent, off these. Seemed to work ok. Also blue halogen lamps being used as moonlights.

If you want to dim T5 lighting (provided its got a compatable dimmable ballast) then I think you need an IKS Simmod unit instead.

Hi thanks for the replys

Does anyone know if it will control my arcadia T5 luminare? 4x54w. Also what streams would you recommend i fit in a 4ftx2ftx2ft. The seio ones seem cheap are they any good or should i just get the tunze. Will i need a normal plug bar to run calcium reactor pump or can i program the varible one just as an on/off device. Sorry to ask so many questions but i want to get this right before making expensive mistakes. Would it also be worth getting some additional probes rather than just the PH.

Thanks for the help

Like Keith said, you can't dim T5's with a variable plug bar alone, you need the Simmod, which is a substantial investment. T5s are dimmable, but not without the "bits".

It will dim standard household lamps, and with some pumps might provide modest control.

They were intially designed to be used with the deltec dimmable t5s but these never really took off.....

Would a variable socket have any influence over the flow of a peri pump? Just thinking of the dimable X10 sockets which can be used on my system.

Yes if the peri pump in variable
