Hiya,
Just purchased a new Salifer Nitrate test and see that my Nitrates are 30 ppm !!! :headbang: My old Salifert test shows only a reading of 0.2 ppm. Obviously the chemical regants in the old kit have expired. This means I have been running my tank with these levels for who knows how long.
My current sump is as follows:-

Water from the return pipes enters the left most baffle, feeds through an area of live rock (this is also where the feed pump for the skimmer is located).
The following pic shows the refigium that is built into the sump. At present this holds Cheato. I can't use this for a deep sand bed because it is not possible to put a high flow through this chamber due to it over flowing. You will see the output from the Skimmer and also from the Phosphate Reactor feeds this section:-

My plan is to put an extra small tank sized 24" x 12" X 12" ontop of my existing sump. Through this I will somehow feed in water and have an overflow drilled in. The idea is that this will be used to house a deep sand bed.
I would be interested to hear people's opinions on this. Is this extra size going to be too small for effective Nutriant export?
(I could use some VDL pipe to make an additional overflow for my Refgium, this would allow me to have a faster flow)
