View Full Version : INFORMATION about impending changes
Dear ALL,
Please treat this as advanced warning that during tomorrow evening (Saturday), we will be instigating new rules where only members with a certain number of posts and length of service will be able to post in the Classifieds area (all forums). I am initially aiming for 50 posts and 30 day membership, for anyone with less than these they will NOT be able to advertise.
The advance notice is to make you aware that this is happening and also so you know their may be some minor disruption, contacting myself or and mod will however help in solving any issues if they occur.
Thanks
Craig.
Damn Craig,
I've only got 40 posts and I've got these 50 brand new deltec skimmers going for £30 each:D:D:D
great idea, good news for everyone:D

seems a good idea, however, just because people dont contribute doesnt make them untrustworthy? i'm sure there has been complete strangers rock up and sell their tanks/stuff on here with no problems, but see where you are coming from in that they dont contribute to the board etc
why dont you operate a system whereby if you were to flog something on here- the seller pays a commission to UR??
i dont know how you would set up or administrate this.........but i'm sure the guys on here would not object.
great ideas stops the repeat offenders who break the rules from just rejoining up !!
We just need to sort out the dodgy buyers now;)

Excellent news...
where are we supposed to get our tramadol and phnetermine from after tomorrow..............next thing you know you'll be wanting us not to take any hand luggage on aircrafts :-))
ok of to the lfs with my frags then
seems a pity....i dont know why people blame ebay or the forum when a sale goes wrong. The medium for advertising the sale shouldnt be responsible for making sure the sale is legit.
It should be up to individuals to work out if its a good buy or not....i would be quite happy for a 1 post newbie to slap up a bargain for me to then investigate further.
Seems a bit "nanny state" to me.

but at the end of he day it does offer some protection now, and why should newbies have the right to come on and waste bandwith for ur in theory !!
when they dont contribute to the site at all, so simple 50 posts sorts it out how long does that take most new people 10 days ?
Good idea, Craig, and though I would be even more stringent, I appreciate the direction.
This is a board for reefers (who may occasionally sell, or buy) not for dealers (who may occasionally reef). There are a million and one other places to advertise, if necessary.

I can see why this is a good idea but we are going get a lot of c*** as people make their 50 post quota. I've always collected anything I've bought from people on UR it's a lot safer and you get meet a lot of great reefers.:D
John.
There are other things I can use now i've set the rules up if it gets abused, but lets give it a chance first.
We dont want to be draconian just offer a limited amount of protection.
as they say at tesco "every little helps" :)
but at the end of he day it does offer some protection now
just not sure what we are "protected" from.....non-regulars posting stuff for sale?
i dont need protecting from a bargain!
when i stripped my system i registered on various forums to sell the gear.....those forum members got some great deals that they wouldnt have had with a "x posts" rule.
rules are rules i suppose...just seems an odd one!
Being new on here i dont think i have been registered for much more than a month i soon racked up my 100+ post and have to date brought a couple of items on here - and had lots of help - yes we want cheap equipment cause this isnt one of the cheapest hobbies to be in but i think this can lead to the not so honest or can i say CON artists taking advantage of us all with the promise of cheap equipment that never turns -
i am like another post on this thread and like to collect my equipment 1 so i know its working and 2 i know i am going to get what i pay for.
good idea and lets hope it works out

simply as if they have to put up 50 posts then maybe they will put pictures of the setup up or chat a bit,
you may get to know the person a bit, at the end of the day someone with 0 posts may not even have a tank and just take the money, i have seen it on other forums, someone came on selling car parts racked up £800 worth of sales got the money and vanished !!
not the forums fault but having a minimum post count helps avoid this, granted he could still make 50 posts then do it but it helps, and any way why should you have the right to sell on a forum when you havent helped the site at all ?

you are more sympathetic than me ;)
if someone buys something from a new poster with zero history and doesnt go to collect that item i would regard that as being an idiot tax on the buyer :D
i understand the reason for all these rules - i just think that in this day and age of being able to speak to anyone anywhere in the world its important for people to use old fashion common sense. 20 years ago ifyou bought something from an add in a postoffice window you wouldnt think of just posting your cash off and hoping the item arrived....this site, ebay, etc should be no different.
hi,just tried to put some live rock up for sale and found i cant and ive only posted 16 times..would think anyone selling something that needs collecting would be pretty safe to deal with as you would get to meet them and see there set up!ive bought various items from here and other sites no problem and when i wasnt happy i walked away..where are my bargains going to come from now?if everyones like me they will just use another site which is in there favorites..if they want to use this theres going to de alot of bump messages posted...
where are my bargains going to come from now?if everyones like me they will just use another site which is in there favorites...
this statement confuses me slightly :D :D
firstly: "where are my bargains going to come from now?" there's no restrictions on buying, your 'bargains' can continue to come from wherever they have until now.
secondly: "if everyones like me they will just use another site which is in there favorites" yeah, i guess they will, not that we will notice as the only people this affects are those that don't post. Those of us on here that do post, wont know you existed in the first place.
at the end of the day all we ask is for 50 posts, this isn't ebay, it's not a trading site, it's a discussion forum, for discussing stuff. if you can't be bothered to discuss anything, i don't see why we should be worried if your unable to sell anything here. as nice as it is to have a classified section, heaven knows I've used it to its fullest, it's merely a perk. if you'd rather use other sites to peddle your wares, so be it.
not meant directly at you but just lately i'm seeing an increasing amount of concern from people worrying that they can't use the site to it's fullest. It's not permanent, you just have to meet criteria now, give something to the site and it will give you access to all areas in return, seems a fair swop to me.
I wholeheartedly support this change. If people who don't contribute anything to this site want to sell stuff then go use Ebay - that's what it's there for.

Now then how many posts did I have again...? :D
