Hi all,

I'm wondering how you guys fluoresce your corals. I'm using the T5 compact Actinics, but they're not very good at showing off the colours, I was wondering could you use a standard UV bulb such as the one in the below link?

mine fluoresce a lot more under 20k halides.

So you find that the 20k bulb does more for you? Do you run any supplementing Actinics? I'm running 10k Halide's in mine at the mo with the actinic supplement, was wondering whether to give the 14k or 20k a go.

Actinics show off the flourescent pigments more than, say, 6500k's. But they also make everything look blue.

Personal choice TBH, I run 14k coralvues and my corals flouresce well, no actincs. :)

i used to run giesemann 2 x 250w 14k megachrome coral lamps supported by 2 x 54w deltec pure actinic and i got fairly good results.

since changing to 2 x 250w XM 20k's backed up by 1 x 10k and 1 x 14k t5's i have seen no visable reduction in growth and more colour.

my tank is 30" deep and failry heavily stocked with hard LPS+SPS corals.
so far the XM set up has been in place since the end of march so i wont have a final conclusion on what to go for next until next year.
at the moment im happy with the XM lamps big time.

Same as Wayne with regards to the XM lamp opinions,i run two 2 by 250 watt XM 20k halides,1 10k 250 watt halide,two t8 4 foot actinics,two 5 ft T5's(i pure actinic,1 actinic).
Certainly makes the blues pop,as seen below.

hmmmm....how to post is the question as i have no experience of it.
the tort frag that i have is not very big as i have been growing the mother coral from a frag for two years.
every time i have tried to frag anything the bugger bleaches within 24 hours....never had any issues fragging acro's before?
do you have any experience with posting mate?

Yea me too :)

Reef bloke just out of curiousity does it not show it's polyps, i've not seen a blue monti yet that has been photographed with good polyp extention, looks very nice either way.

The polys are actually out in that pic,the coral is actually biege when they are retracted at night. If you look at the tips you can seethem sitting off it,its actually quite 'furry' in the flesh.
Wayne i cant say ive ever posted either mate so not sure.I would imagine i would need a heat pad and send it special del.No idea where to get heat pads locally though.Shame we didnt live closer.
