depends how you want to landscape the tank
start with 4 boxes and go from there

I don't know much about metric units but 100-120 pounds would do it nicely.

IIRC you should work on about 1 kg of LR per 2 gallons of water, your tank is 100 gallons so about 50 kg.

Dependant on the density of the rock, the rule of thumb i was told was 1-2 lb per gallon

I would have said about 40 kilos to start. (you can allways add more).

a good basic rule of thumb is to keep any structure you make, nice and open. this helps flow through and around the rock which increases its efficiency. having alot of rock crammed in a tank with small gaps and no flow through it is far less effective. (and a damn site more expensive).
