I know it's "old hat" for a lot of you - but I was chuffed to bits today to see that my Percula clownfish have laid a batch of eggs!

My wife wasn't so impressed when I told her that the fry would almost certainly not survive.

It's about time something went right in this new tank of mine!

Ian,

How long have the percs been in the tank? have they spawned again?

The reason I ask is that I have two pairs of true percs that spawn from time to time but they never seem to spawn regularly. However I have a pair of determined Coral sea Percs that spawn every two weeks like clockwork without fail and nothing ever seems to deter them! Even if you take out their favourite rock they will just spawn on the glass instead.

Cheers,

Bob S.

Hi Bob,

I've had the Percs about 8 weeks. This is the first time they've spawned and they haven't done it again yet - they're still looking after the first lot of eggs.

Fingers crossed they'll keep doing it though.

Congrats Ian on your Perculas,
My Maroons have just hatched and as a newbie am also chuffed.
Biggest problem was catching them in my reef tank, Joyce Wilkersons method did not work for me and I decided to syphon then out. Big mistake, the stress was too much for them and of the 50 lavae caught, only 3 survived!:(
Better luck next time.

My Perculas have now taken up residence in my Bubbletip anemone and have spawned again. Looks like something snaffled the eggs up in the night though!

But they've got the hang of it now so fingers crossed they'll carry on. Better luck next time Roger.

once they get the nack of it mate they will lay like clockwork, clownfish r so aware of time its unreal..

best bet is to try and get them to lay a nest on a tile, so u can remove it to a quarantine tank, then u can have a go at raising the fry...
