Hi All

I bought a malu anemone on the weekend and i was wondering if it is suitable for my perc clowns. The best way to discribe it is a creamy colour with purple tips. My clowns have ignored it so far.

Thanx

Mike

Are the clowns wild or tank bred?

If their tank bred they might not host in it

If there wild just wait as they will eventually ;)

It's possible. In the wild, Amphiprion percula is normally hosted by Heteractis crispa or magnifica, or Stichodactyla gigantea. In an aquarium they may take up residence but there are no guarantees. Just be patient :)

Sorry to tell you mate you have bought an unhealthy nem, Malus are brown, they turn cream when they bleach, usually as a response to shipping stress (malus dont ship well),they can be pulled back but it is not good.. has it attached yet ? would you describe the tentacles as long and thin or short ant fat ? and most importantly is it "sticky" to the touch ?? if it isnt sticky then it will not recover as well as expelling zooxanthelle they can also expel nematacysts (stinging cells) making it impossible to feed...

IMO you would be better returning it to the store .. it is better that it dies in their system than yours:(:(:(

Malus make an excellent host

Looks like an atlantic nem to me. If it is a Malu then I had one of these and my clowns totally ignored it.

My first experience without reading first,I had a Malu Purple Tip,but returned it to lfs four days later,,on firstly putting into my tank my clarki's took to it instantly after halides out.
I would never buy another Malu but may in the future try Magnifica or Crispa, but it could be a big may as it is possible to provide a host which isn't Anemone and doesn't run the risks..

Here is My Clarki with the Purple tip Malu
