I suppose this question is a little premature, but if you were planning on buying a nano which one of the myriadn available (deltec, red sea, aquamedic, nano customs) would yo go for??
well nano customs is out as it would cost to much money to get them over here ie at least £100 for shipping them to convert the power so they are out
i would not go for any of the out of the box packages.. i would put my own together...

Thats what I did, the ready made ones are OK but you won't be 100% happy with them and will modify them eventually anyway.
It may be that you won't need to modify as much as if starting from basics but I haven't seen a pre built custom yet that would function adequately as a reef tank in standard form.

:D Thats what im doing. A glass tank built to your own spec, evan by you lfs works out cheaper than the badged equivelant...
And you have the advantage of having the tank build to suit the requirements of your intended livestock. All the prebuilt tanks seem to take the 'One size fits all' approach. It's a shame they dont have a more modular approach to design.

i concur with the above, rather than dashing in and getting your feet wet. think longer term....
it may appear to be sheer lunacy having a sump on such a little volume of water........but if i had my time again i'd have to agree with the above guys and go for something custom, it gives you latitude, whereas an all-in-one doesnt.
I have recently sold my 4x2x2 system for a variety of reasons.
I don't want to leave the hobby completely so I am waiting for the Deltec approved - JBL - Nano-Cube which will be available early September, I like the idea of everything being located in one small neat package, and because it has the Deltec approval I think it is a good piece off kit.

its the same with me, ive broken down my big tank but still want to stay in the hobby, seems stupid to stop after doing so much reading/research and being so interested for ages.
So if you were bulding the ultimate nano at the moment, say between 12-24 gallon, what kit would you use and why??

Maybe we should get together and do their job for them then....I've got a degree in design!!!:p

Mr Beckham? Wouldnt mind being him:D
I think you missunderstand my intentions ;)
We could design and produce a cutting list for building your own nano with different options depending what you want to keep. Link sites where to get the raw materials and write up a quick diy guide to assembling the parts.....Err nah, too much like hard work all round, it would never work and most people here want different setups:D
To be honest all this industry hype and push over nanos is realy concerning me. Theres too much potential for it to be abused by profiteer manufacturers/retailers/skint newcommers.
Most people here seem to get nanos as secound tanks or downgrades. IMO Small tanks dont leave enough margin of error for people new to the hobby or those who havent done their research.
Id be interested to know if any market research has been done into potential markets by these companys~???
