Hi
I'm in the process of designing a 120+ gallon tank and i cant decided on what skimmer to go for (aquamedic or deltec). I am thinking of getting the Deltec AP701 but i would like your views before i purchase it. If you think there is a better suited skimmer please let me know!
Also am i right in thinking that a return from a skimmer works on a overflow and is not under pressure, therfore the skimmer return must be higher than the sump water level. So in the case of the deltec AP701, I can't have a sump higher than 10.5". I cant raise the skimmer any more as there will be just enough room to take the collection cup off. How have you guys overcome running such a low water line in your sump??
put the whole skimmer in the sump, in a form of tray and use this as a collection area for the return pump and have a seperate fuge tank
I use a deltec ts 1060 in sump skimmer and i'm very happy with the results, also there's no need for a feed pump. If you have a look through the equipment section someone has one for sale for £170 which is a steal !

i use the ap701 on my system, great skimmer.
if you cant fit it in the cabinet because you need to raise it up, then you can always drill the side of your sump and have the outlet going straight through the side of the sump.

I think i am going to go for the ap701 (would like the 702) but i think im gonna take ur advice and drill the side of the sump. least this way i can hav higher sump walls to prevent flooding incase of a power cut or return pump failure!!
Does anyone know how high the water can raise in the skimmer before it overflows?????
i would go for a deltec, they are excellent skimmers in my opinion.

the water level in the skimmer needs to be about level with the bayonet fitting where the cup attaches to

Sorry what i meant to ask is when you get a pump failure or power cut and the level in your sump raise's, this inturn will raise the level in your skimmer (i think) i was just wondering how much the water can raise before it starts to overflow from your skimmer??????
depending how you set it up.
if the skimmer is fed from the overflow on the tank the water level wont change, until no more water flows out of the tank then the level in the skimmer will drop.
if you feed the skimmer by a separate pump if theres a powercut then obviously no water will be pumped into the skimmer.
so either way it cant overflow
