As long as the tissue on the animal is not powdery or grey in colour I am sure it will be ok. How is your other sacrophyton and corals?

As long as it is a healthy coral, the stump should turn into another toadstool.

I had that happen several times on one i had a few years back. main parent would grow up till it was touching water surface then lean to one side or the other till it was touching LR. it then attached where it touched and split off the old base which then grew into a new colony.
ended up with about seven of them all different sizes:D
great for swaps.;)
