Noticed this guy in the LFS 2 weeks ago, thought he was a stunner. Went home and done my homework and was not overly pleased with it's survival rate. Done a bit more digging and it appeared the death rate was down to poor shipping as they don't travel well.

Went back to the LFS and he was still there and I watched while they fed, he didn't stop eating going into a frenzy. So this weekend I went back and bought him. He is still eating well and showing good signs of exploring my tank eating anything that moves including my pod population. He is still eating frozen also so think I may be safe but over the last 24 hours I have noticed one or two missing blue spots on one side. Now these spots could have been missing before and I hadn't noticed but I thought I best ask to be safe.

Is this a skin infection or is it normal as the chap grows? Could something have taken a nip out of him? They don't appear to be cuts, fish seems happy.

Looks like scale loss, they may just have fragile scale attachment and be prone to this (one reason why they wouldn't ship well) but I've no experience of this species.

it's just keep and eye on him time and wait and see. IMHE small scale, scale loss like this is rarely serious and they should grow back in a few weeks.

I'd worry if it got worst as he may be being attacked at night or have another underlying problem.
