Ok, whilst I have not had my tank for long (2 months ish), I one day want to get an anemone. Now I have read that I need to have my tank set up for a year, and thats fine, I trying to learn without killing everything in sight (cant afford to kill everything and also have a moral objection to doing so).

Now, does anyone here breed them ??
I have read that it is possible to get tank breed, and if I could I would prefer one. Info of breeders in the Manchester area be greatly appreciated.

Selection ...
As my current tank is small for marine standards, I want something that isnt going to out grow my tank in a couple weeks ... tank is 36" x 15" x 12". Now I think I personally prefer a bubble tip from purely a looks perspective, but glady accept recommendations as to species I should consider ! The hardier the better, but something with a little colour / character :)

I also want a clown fish too ... and would prefer to buy the two together if possible. I had to baby perc's for awhile, but regrettably they died, dont know why, there one day, dead the next (rest of tank okay tho, and both died couple weeks apart from each other). Again, would prefer a tank breed over a wild ... but I want one thats going to adopt the anemone. (and no I am not looking for NEMO ! )

Thoughts & comments warmly received !

p.s. my current filtration is a fluval 405 external filter, now whilst this has a housing over the intake, is this sufficient or do I need a finer mesh ? If so, whats tank safe ?

good to see that you are willing to wait a while and get a fair bit of experience under your belt. but that doesn't stop you from planning as you say.

what lighting do you have over your current set up, what clowns are you thinking of purchasing,

i would get some sort of sponge over that 405 intake, i'm sure a look in your LFS / garden centre, and you'll be able to come up with some sort of DIY solution.

what media do you have in the 405?

do you have a skimmer / plan on getting one.

more details are needed really, i personally, wouldn't rely solely on a 405 for filtration.

I read the FAQ thingy first,

Currently only have the Fluval 405, using th stuff that came with it (sponge pre filter, ceramic tube things and carbon). I was the biggest filter I could buy, and was told that if anything I had oversized it ? which was a good thing.

Im looking into making a weir so that I can add a sump ... but thats work in progress. Skimmer will be going in the sump ... cant use hang off back currently due to hood issues :(

I currently have 2 T8s (converted my old tropical tank), but I need to sort out better lighting eventually. The corals I have atm seem to be doing well though (except the leather, but thats a different story). I am considering getting T5s, but would want to keep the T8s and use them on different timers so that I can a more natural lighting change through the day.

As to the clown ... not sure, pretty easy going, just really want something thats going to go well with the anemone. Hardy, tank bred species preferred.

As always, all suggestions welcomed !
I have an RO unit being delivered soon, so I can improve my water change quality :)

If you wan to keep a nem then you will eiter need to ditch your t8 and get alot of t5 or more sensible is to go straight to metal halide, it is fundamental to nem keeping to have enough light. i have a malu , i recently upgraded my 150 watt halide to a 250, it has been up a couple of weeks and the nem seems happier already
