Is this something you have got on a specific coral?

It may just be growth tips, i have a pink milli and the growth tips are white about 0.5cm long.

If its a new coral, then could be down to light

or being in direct focussed flow..

Hi,
a while ago I had a big pink milli that had bleached tips. I'm talking about 1cm of tip here. In a short time the tips got algae on them and I eventually lost the entire colony. I recently got a small pink milli with blue tips from my LFS and left it at the bottom of my tank for a week where although it lost a lot of colour(ie: turning brown, not unexpected) had excellent polyp extension and seemed to be doing well. I moved it up about 9" a week ago and now polyp extension is virtually nil and I have the same tip bleaching scenario on two out of about seven branches. It does "seem" like light shock but a friend of mine has similar lighting and put his millis in a higher position and they are fine:confused:
All my water params are spot on and I have 3 6100's so flow should not be an issue.
I am thinking of cutting off the bleached tips and moving the milli back to the bottom of my tank to see if it will improve.

Anthony

Normaly if its alk they will go from bottom up. I would be looking at phosphate levels that normaly effects tips. You say your reading are spot on what are they? is test kit old?

Sorry to hear about this :(

If you have only moved it 9" up from the bottom. I can't see it being light shock as you have a 30" high tank and your lights aren't that low.

Sorry can't be more help.

I would agree with this, if algae is covering the bleached tips and smothering the coral, sounds like phosphates or nitrates.

Perhaps test for silicates as this could also cause stress.
