View Full Version : Can I reuse my existing Arcadia ligh fittings / PSU?
I'm interested in adding a light to the front of my tank just like ~TONY~ (http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?t=166263&page=8)
I have a twin 54watt arcadia t5's running 24watt white bulbs. (AED554 T5 2 x 54W)
What I don't know is can I reuse the electrics?
Will this power a 54w actinic light, is that the right wattage?
Is it easy to remove 1 set of leads? (I only want 1 actinic light)
I wouldnt risk it.I recently tried 2x39watt t5's in a 2x21watt t5 fitting.I worked ok but I dont think I could sleep easy at night knowing it might blow and set on fire or something daft like that while Im at work.
Ive heard t8 actinics are better! If your going to go for a t8 I might be able to find an electronic ballast the right size at work that you could have if you pay the P+P.I will have a look round tomorrow.
Hi
The AED554 is fine to run a pair of T5 54W actinics - it's exactly what it was designed to do.

Hi
Not sure if the twin controllers work with only one lamp connected though...

I have just stripped and reused my old arcadia luminare in a lighting mod, (can be seen here, towards the bottom http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?t=184802&page=2)
It ran off twin ballasts, but in order to run..... both circuits on the ballast had to be connected. If one of the cables from one of the bulbs was unpluged then both bulbs would go off. If they are similar to these ballasts (would imagine they are, being arcadia) you will need to run both bulbs.
