View Full Version : acclimitising your corals?

hi Clayton,

As I'm expecting a nice package off you shortly, I wondered on your views about starting corals off on the substrate, and slowly moving them higher up the rockwork, so they don't get exposed to the full light from the time they go in?

Assuming I've drip'd them with water from my tank for a few hours, do you believe in leaving them low and moving them up, or immediately putting them in their final resting place?

Cheers,

Greg

I would also be interested in this as I am expecting a nice little package too.

Doug.

Hi guys, instructions on acclimation come with the corals. As far as positioning with lighting goes, then the starting low and moving up is a good rule. However it does all depend on positioning under the lighting and what lighting you have.
My hard corals have about 250ME on them minimum but are often exposed to up to 1500ME, the soft corals (and histrix) have around 200ME minimum and 1500ME max.
As long as you are not placing them directly under a 400w halide then you should not be able to over-expose them.
Cheers guys

cheers,

Package arrived 1st thing, all in and I can't wait for lights on as they look fantastic "in the dark" so to speak ;)

I'm on dual 250w MH's fairly high at the moment, so will place them in their final positions :D

Regards,

Greg
