http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploader/2006Q1/Image015 (600 x 450).jpg

JASONC1
08-09-06, 22:43
but first we need to get rid of these as we wont need them
http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploader/2006Q1/Image034 (600 x 450).jpg
but keep the sponges as i will use the 1 in chamber 1 for about a week just so the fine particles in the water are gone or nearly gone

JASONC1
08-09-06, 22:45
at the back of the tank there is a black covering where the leads are is where im going to remove the backing
http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploader/2006Q1/Image027 (600 x 450).jpg

JASONC1
08-09-06, 22:49
ive started to cut the backing with a stanley knife you dont need much pressure to make the cuts just take your time
http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploader/2006Q1/Image028 (600 x 450).jpg

JASONC1
08-09-06, 22:58

http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploader/2006Q1/Image033 (600 x 450)1.JPG

JASONC1
09-09-06, 12:46
ok you then need to mod the maxi holder so it will fit in the 3rd chamber you want it something like this
http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploader/2006Q1/Image035 (600 x 450).jpg
cut where i have so you can still insert the sucktions you only need 2 of them
http://www.ultimatereef.net/uploader/2006Q1/Image036 (600 x 450).jpg
this is how it should look

JASONC1
09-09-06, 17:08

Ok so my rock has now been in over 24 hours and this is how i scaped it. Its horse shoe shaped no stacking really lots of crevaces etc. Also on the right hand side is a small "bridge" thing i creted using the rock and eef putty.

Hope you all like please post your comments!

Cheers,

Jack

1 feeling i think people will say is its too low. Bare in mind i am thinking of getting the metal halide within a month or 2.

Anyway TIA

gregcope
14-09-06, 08:52
Where you going to fit the halide in the hood or outside?

Looks nice BTW - I'd not add much more rock for the minute.

How are you finding the hydor thingy? Cuts much flow?

Also can you post the dimensions of the last (pump) chamber? I want to see if a newjet pump will fit instead of a maxijet?

Ta.

Any ideas on auto-top off - with an MH it will be essential.

dan-the-man
14-09-06, 08:54
Looks cool, very nice :)

jacksprat
14-09-06, 12:11
dont want to thread steal but there are lots of options with the auto top offs mate maybe a custom one with the canister of water inside the stand. I would take the hood off because the retrofit ones that go inside the hood will make it too hot!

hevan't fitted my hydor flow yet but i will be doing it later, Jason has fitted his and he likes it!

I am just waiting on my maxijet 1200 to get collected ebcause i got sent the wrong one then i will fir the hydor!

gregcope
14-09-06, 14:24
tunze is the only auto-top off to get :-)

jacksprat
14-09-06, 14:56
and the cost of that?.......................... (what is the cost actually) lol

i can probably make myself up a nice one that will fit my requirements perfectly but any links to the tunze one? and do you have a NC? if so hows yours coming along?

gary smith
14-09-06, 15:05

Price says it all mate.

I will prob make my own for the minute then get one of them when i need it!

gregcope
14-09-06, 15:22
They occassionally come up 2nd hand.

One thing you need to be carefull of is failure on any model.

Tunze one has a 2 fail safes - 1. an inverted float switch that goes off if too much goes in, and also a pump runtime timer (which limits its run time).

Yes its expensive but mine work perferctly.

19-09-06, 00:21
Hmm im very tempted with one of these, would it be sutable for pipefish and seahorses or not big enough ?

jacksprat
19-09-06, 09:28
Think you would need a skimmer if you had seahorses and it isnt ideal if you need one as there isnt alot of space!

gregcope
19-09-06, 10:22
How big do you need it

The internal area is rought 18 square.

A Skimmer would be interesting - I've been thinking about an internal pump powered HOB - attached via the back - needs butchering of the hood.

JASONC1
19-09-06, 14:31
i would say it is big enough for either of them

JASONC1
19-09-06, 14:33
they might bring out a small skimmer that will fit in 1 of the chambers im sure there is 1 out there

You can change water when you like.

Changing allot (30% plus) is likely to shock things as it is likely to be slighly different.

I do 10% changes quite often (weekly).

How much were you thinking of changing?

JASONC1
06-10-06, 15:26
only 10% mate not changed any yet but will be doing it weekly or every 2 weeks

Go for it.

Get it upto temp and the same SG and then just dump a load in a bucket and replace.

10% is 2.4G roughly - or the size of a reasonable bucket.

Hi Jason

Very helpful thread, great therapy for those of us eagerly waiting for our nanos to arrive. I am getting one from Cyber with sump pre-drilled, do you have any pictures of your sump - do you have a return from there. I am going to use the sump as fuge as I think you are...

Well done mate

Hi Guys,

Some great info on here!

I have a 24 and am just waiting for some more equipment to arrive through the post. I'm getting a skimmer designed to go into the back imported from the states and would like to set up another chaimber as a fuge like Jasonc1's.

Do you (anyone) think this will be enough filtration? I notice Jasonc1 is using carbon, my LFS is recomending removing the carbon, bio balls and ceramic but add poly filter. They also say there will be enough bio filtration from the LR in the main tank to not use a fuge in the rear. This advice was given before i found the skimmer. Am i right in thinking I wont need to use poly if i have a skimmer? Any advice welcome!

Cheers

hi mate xenia is doing great

bunglehaze
29-09-07, 21:29
Just a word of warning with the SPS jase, you will find that your xenia will go mental and spread rapidly, when it does this you might find it starts really interfering with your SPS. I think my original xenia frags are STILL being passed around between members I have never met because the stuff grows so quick.

Not really up to me here but IMO if you want to keep SPS in a nano you really ought to remove the leathers and xenia, mushrooms are not too bad or zoos.

cheers
