View Full Version : Where to drill my 24G JBJ nano
I bought a JBJ Nano and after a couple of days i didn't like to rear filter within the tank so I removed it so that i may add a sump to get a clean look and more space.
I also did not like the idea of adding a skimmer to the main tank which would taken valuable space.
I've got the glass drills & tank connectors, 25mm return from the sump & 34mm to the sump. I'm going to drill the bottom panel.
Shall I place the two holes together? I plan to use a spray bar on the return.
Pic to follow, any one else planning to do this, or has done it already?

I drilled my nano, but I did it in the rear panel in the top corners - left for the return, right for the sump feed.
I assume you are going to incorporate a weir around the sump feed?

Do you have any noise from the overflow with that arrangement Ian?

No, it's very quiet - I made a triangular weir around the overflow, and keep the return pump throttled back so there's a pretty slow turnover of water through the tank and sump.

Thought that tank was meant to be " The bee's knee's " of nano tanks . What did you not like about the rear filter ?
Hi Ian,
I was planning to put a wier in but then i though of plumbing the tubes righ up to ther surface (to get surface skimming) as theres not going to be much water pressure on the tank connectors. If i do this i need to make sure that theres no rock leaning on the pipe work.
just a point. i wonder how many people will run these tanks without skimmers? most people who buy a nano either jam a skimmer in it, or spend the time drilling and putting a sump on.
just my two cents.
I really do think depends what your going to keep. I plan to have a tank devoted to sun corals and low light corals to suite this environment. Sun corals require a lot of meaty foods , thus skimming would be good.

I like the looks of the tank but i did not like the fact the i was loosing a lot of space inside. second point i thought the filter compartments were not going to give me any benifit other than adding carbon, phosphate remover.
Theres a lot a info on reef central with peeps making a hang on fudge to get better water quality.
I bought a aquamedic turbo multi skimmer for £40 ish, tank connectors for £11 and glass drills for £8. for this price i'm going to better water quality with a sump.
well ive got the same tank and i made a fuge in the 2nd chamber
