Other than the dwarf angels, what type of angels would be suitable for a reef?? What to add a bit of colour and diversity to my fish population without upsetting my sps.
Comments appreciated.

Bellus Angels are by all accounts reef safe. A bit of a marmite angel.....

Apolemichthys xanthurus - Cream Angel. A great addition to the tank.

Failing that, one of the Genicanthus angels could be worth a look, although they tend to be quite delicate fish, usually from deeper waters.

depends on the fish, i know Scoob has one and it ate all his Xenia.
i think they also like the odd soft coral.
I'm sure Scoob will have more info

If the tanks big enough and you are after a 'real' angel and you aren't a zoa lover you could try a majestic. Beautiful fish but timid to start with;)

6x2x2 plus when grown, you'd get away with a 4-5ft when juv/young;)

shame i've only got a chromis. looks like it will have to be something dwarfy then. Any suggestions on something niceeee, i quite like the mulitbarred angel but already have a potters. Not sure if they will get on or the price on one, but clippo's home site says they are quite difficult to keep. There is also the multicolour angel (I think they are way overpriced tho), yellowfin angel and the midnight angel, which I think would look spectacular in a reef tank.

A bicolour angel has also crossed my mind but they are ten a penny in the trade and I was looking for something to complement my potters angel as he is such a nice fish.

Your tank won't really be suitable for another dwarf angel. Your tank size is small already for an angels territory adding another would be asking for trouble when their paths cross.;)

bummer, can you suggest anything else then??

What fish do you have now?

A pair of banggais or a more unusual goby/blenny - orchid dottyback - firefish - jawfish - small wrasse:confused:

Is it a splash of colour you want in your tank?

i have one chromis, (6 others died), one potters, one clown fish, one scooter blenny and thats it. I have possibly a pair of bangii's on order but it is the splash of colour I was looking for. I was ideally after a medium sized fish that likes swimming in the open, the potters is constantly darting in and out of the rockwork so is never on display permenantly. I would love a small yellow tang but i know that is a no no. Any suggestions, or, should i just buy a bigger tank, lol.

Bigger tank:D:D ( just pipped me Ian )

Seriously though I'd not risk the potters by adding another angel, especially if its safe with corals. You could add a small fireball or flameback but they are terrors for their size and will stress you out when you watch it chasing everything in sight around your tank and nibbling your corals:(

I'd definitely add the banggais. If you want colour at little cost you wont go far wrong with an orchid DB or firefish, both are content in a smaller tank. If you want something a little special try getting a pair of helfrichs firefish but they cost a bit. Firefish are carpet surfers BTW;)

currently a bigger tank is out of the question, it would have to be a bigger house as well.lol.
Firefish have never interested me, but the reason for this is there tendencies to carpet surf. Bit of a waste of money imho.
I have had an Orchid Dottyback before and they are the evilest fish I have ever met. On a level par with the damels for being little devils, i have had two, both ended up back at lfs because of their territorial tendancies.
So I am pretty stuck in what to add for a splash of colour for a smaller tank. Got any more suggestions??

maybe 2-3 ventralis anthias?
They look nice.

My regal angel is completely reef safe, he started on zoas but then i think he preferred what i was feeding him!

just because it was touched on and not because i recommend one for your tank heysi but my regal took out a very large pussey coral, several bunches of xenia and i have seen him chow the odd tree coral. i forgive him tho as he is my ultimate fish :)

since he ate all that tho he has been a model citizen. saying that a mate gave me some lovely red zoas the other day, he polished them off in ten minutes :D doesn't touch my sps tho, so i'm happy.

tad expensive, espcially for a shoal of three, but thanks anyway.
