View Full Version : Who is going to win?
Both the star polyps and the Pavona was on the LR when purchased. Each have grown quite rapidly.
They are at the stage now that they are touching. I want to keep the Pavona. So before I hack away at the star polyps. Will the Pavona gain the upper hand by itself?

Kill the star polyps, kill em all , horrible weeds
cant you just cut through the rock?

Not a bad I idea that! Only problem is I can't see a saw getting through the rock or will it?
So my other option will be to split it with a hammer and chisel and take the risk of breaking the Pavona.
Dave
i wouls say the pavano due to the sweepers they put out are quite savage

Star polyps will win in most cases ime.
I would cut it with a hammer and chisel myself.

Si.
hammer and chisel, poofs
you need a big ass flame thrower lol. seriously though i have had success getting rid of gsp by using a soldering iron (take the rock out obiously)
Pavona is one of the few SPS that can hold it`s own against Pachyclavularia / Briareum. So long as it is happy and growing I`m sure it will be okay but those Star polyps will become a pain somewhere along the line.
best to keep them isolated on a seperate rock ify ou want to keep them.
There is definately a war going on. The star polyps nearest the Pavona have now shrunk and the Pavona is growing thick sweeper tenticles by the star polyps.
I am going to leave it a while longer, as removing the rock will prove troublesome. There is a large plating monti above which could easily be damaged.
thanks for your replies

Yes the monti would be vulnerable but as I said tha Pavona can take care of it self.;)
For peoples interest, these are the pictures of the live rock four months ago. Just shows you how things grow. If only I dealt with them then ! :p
