View Full Version : iks not functioning - help
Morning all
Power tripped out last night - not sure why (The tank is the usual culprit though)
Reset the power, but the IKS is not working - seems to power up ok - but the keypad is completely dead. The IKS is in a completely non-functioning state - so of course no lights, kalk and gas to the reactor - so need to fix pretty quickly.
Any ideas why the keypad doesn't work and is there a fix?
Assuming the worse - anyone know who keeps them in stock that could do a next day delivery?

Well - think ive found the problem - took the iks apart - looks like the battery has bascially exploded - and ripped through the ribbon cable that connects the keypad - I just cannot believe it!
The battery was replaced around a year ago, the unit is old - so - anyone know where I can get an iks from today? Who stocks them ?
Phil
Upgrade to an Aquatronica
Oh sure - I'll dump 4 plug bars, redox probe, 2xph probe, temp probe and start all over. Thanks for your help

No need to be rude it was only a suggestion.
IKS are renouned for keypad issues.
Not being phycic I didn't know you you had that much equipment.
ok - no probs.
But also the post above pointed out the battery has literally exploded inside the unit, ripping through the cable connecting the circuit board to the keypad - so, despite a faulty keypad - it's not really the keypads fault!
Anyhow - at least I know why the leccie tripped last night - and good job it was a mild night
So - anyone know who's got an IKS unit in stock ?

There was a brand new one in for sale section yesterday I think
Or speak to Steve lant his is not running currtently mean you could have one today he's off to newcastle tonight you might want to ring him now.
Just thought it worth updating everyone.
The IKS had a new battery fitted just under a year ago - I purchased the battery direct from IKS in Germany, and had it fitted by a qualified electronics engineer. It was clear that the batteries had "exploded" inside the unit that had caused the damage.
I had retained the original emails for the order - so I forwarded them back to IKS, along with two quite close up / detailed photographs of the damage to the IKS.
IKS responded by return of the email asking me to call them. After a few quick questions, they have agreed at no charge (postage excluded) to repair the unit free of charge to me.
I'm pretty pleased with this, despite the hastle at the time, and also a slightly enforced purchase of another (second hand) IKS, which I will now keep as a spare, and will be available to other members of the MGTG should they find themselves in need!

Nice to hear about a near disaster with a happy ending. Full marks to IKS for their offer. I will sleep easy in the knowledge that an IKS back up is only a phone call away:D
