I'm not 100% sure - but I cannot see how it could save all programmed settings without one. See my thread today about iks battery as well

Hi Phil,
So does the full size IKS have battery back up?, is it a removable/replaceable battery, or does it live on the "bios" inside the unit?.
Regards
Steve
The full size one has a battery that is soldered onto the circuit board

Hi Phil,
Thanks for that, thinking about it, you are not supposed to break the seals on the units, so it is logical that they sit on the board, have one with a knackered battery, and don't want to go down the UPS route.

That's the same problem I had with mine last year - I got a replacement from iks in Germany (cost around £12 I think - outrageous).
Got it soldered onto the pcb and all has worked fine (until couple of days ago when it lost it!)
I wouldn't worry about the seal, unless the unit is still under warranty / the iks maintenance contract
