A very good friend (Thomj) has lent me his 400watt series 3 Arcadia to try for a few weeks on my 24" deep cube.:D
Upto now they have been under a 250w Geismann 14500k bulb and are growing well and fairly colourful.
Ive fixed up the 400w tonight but the arcadia 14k bulb looks a bit yellow for my taste, plus the corals themselves look a bit dull.
What bulb do you think i should buy for it???
thank you, steve

Be careful to acclimatise your corals to the new light strength otherwise you may suffer some bleaching.

I have a 400 watt Arcadia unit. But it can't ignite the German made Radium 20k bulb. Kept blowing the fuse in the external box. Arcadia couldn't solve this one. Oddly enough, cheap lowbay fires this bulb. Am pleased with result- especially with blue acros.

I am finding that the coralvue 14k gives a very similar colour to the 20k radium. Coral colouration seems fine with both.

Cam.

Thanks for the advice chaps.
Cam, do i take it then that the coralvue is noticeably bluer than the original 14k Arcadia?
regards Steve
Hello Steve I hope your well! I know what you mean about the bulb... I really think a 20k would look fantastic over your stunning tank! If you fancy giving it ago and your not happy with the results I'll happily pay you back for the bulb matey :D
Speak to you soon buddy! Tom http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

Tom, you are truly a top bloke.:)
Nice 700g Reef.
Thanks. However I have just spent the last 2 days stripping down the tank and rebuilding everything with new rock and sand etc. I had problems and lost some pieces plus the tank was being choked by some encrusting polyps. I'll be post in a thread on the rebuild soon.

I can't answer that I'm afraid as I have never used the arcadia 20k bulbs, only radium which are only slightly bluer than the 14k coralvue.
Cheers,
Cam.

Cam, sorry , i wasn't very clear.
I actually meant: is the 14k coral vue much bluer than the original 14k arcadia, atb steve
I have 400w 14k and 20k coralvues plus a 14k arcadia. The 14k coralvue is noticeably bluer than the arcadia - to my eyes anyway.

Thanks again for the info.
After speaking to Rob at Marine lighting, he advised a 14k BLv.
It arrived the next morning and i am well impressed, both with his service and the lamp.
Its a much bluer colour than the old Arcadia 14k, seems so much brighter as well, so im well chuffed
Nice tank Cam
Look foward to seeing new set up.
Nice tank Cam
