View Full Version : 'tronica audiable alarm via PC yet?
Is there one yet? As my unit will be in the sump room i want a buzzer in the house.......can the PC software make a noise yet (not beyond the realms of a PCs abilities one assumes?)
Otherwise i'm going to have to hook up a buzzer to one of my spare plugs and run that into my house and set it to turn on in the event of X Y Z happening!
Why not kill two birds with one stone and wait for the SMS text alert kit?
I assume you have your mobile near by most of the time, plus you can use it when away from home etc.
Found this, no doubt Ian could give you some more details if required.
Thanks to the GSM module and a remote connection, it is possible to dialogue via a mobile phone.
There must be a SIM card from any mobile phone company (not supplied) inside the GSM module. This makes it possible to receive considerable information about the condition of your aquarium, such as:
triggered system alarms
black-out warnings and a subsequent signal when the power is turned back on (thanks to the internal battery)
you can ask the control unit for the list of water chemical values
send and receive sms messages just like any normal mobile phone
The firmware inside the GSM module can be continually updated on-line.
TECHNICAL DATA
Power supply voltage: 115V 60Hz - 220V 50Hz
SIM connector: inside the module
Antenna: supplied
Battery: PP3 format - 9V - non rechargeable
Release TBC. Price TBC

indeed....but rigging the PC software to "beep" hardly sounds complex!

Not saying it is and no doubt it wouldn't be a major cost to add, but at least with the SMS alert you will get the alarm / buzzer where ever you are, and not just when in the house.
yes - but, for example at night. I wont hear my mobile beeping if im in bed (and i'm not going to start taking my phone to bed with me!) but the PC chirping away i would hear.
just seems such a simple step - pc going beep, and to deal with it via an SMS module seems like solving with overkill.
Put your phone in your Pyjama bottoms and set it to vibrate when you get a text :p

Not sure thats the spirit that made Billy Gates billions ;)
"Bill, can we get a PC to beep" "ohhhhh....we dont need that, just vibrate your pants and be done with it"

Reminds me of a deaf guy at uni, complained he couldn't hear the fire alarm so they supplied him with a flashing light in his room and best of all a vibrating pillow.
Remember him saying he loved the weekly fire alarm tests.
Alex.

soon after the all the women started complaining of hearing difficulties and requesting the pillows!
So ask one of the foreign distributors to get it done, how much sway the have with Italy I have no idea....:D
In jest, I can ask for you, thanks for your business!
i thought i'd buy all my gear from france then order a packet of calibration fluid from a UK dealer to qualify for some homegrown support ;)
anyone know the French for "beep" :D
Didnt know you could speak French Tiggsy. Have fun rewiring all the plugs to Euro as well. Also, English versions ony work with English, French with French and so on so you will need to get ALL the parts from one national distributor.
i have already bought a fully UK spec system with 4 plug bars and lots of extras so you dont need to tell me to buy UK, you have my money already ;)
however, out of interest - how hard is it to deal with french plug?
Italy will ONLY supply each country with its 'CE type' plug bar, Ive tried for people with lots of schuko plugs and one guy that was going to the US to get the style of bar that was needed, but they wont supply.
The French style will just be the two pin versions, so you would need to cut of UK and fit Euro style.
The bleep is scheduled to be on the next but one update, just for you!:) Wasnt going to tell ya, but what the heck, always try and look after loyal customers!

simple enough though.
bottom line why the difference? when france buys them what are they not having to add that the UK does to mean the UK price ends up higher?
right now its still fairly new stuff and no doubt most orders in the UK stay here - but it must be expected that as it grows as a product people will start to look elsewhere.
last week there was a bloke selling a second hand unit (hardly used) on ebay - i was going to pick up some extras he had going, probes etc - until i realised they were more than the EU cost! I figured if i was going to buy outside official dealers for that sort of item i may as well get brand new stuff.........got to be issue as the world gets smaller, you can phone the EU stores and chat with them easier than calling my bloody bank!

Tres Bien moissure wavey ;)
The French distributor has only just been appointed, so I believe they are doing 'opening offers' dont expect them to last.
