Have had my blue throat trigger for almost 3 years now, he has a blue throat and his caudal fin has the yellow edging, but has not yet developed yellow edged dorsal and anal fin,s the edges have started to turn a lighter brown over the last few weeks, but now for the last 4 days he has been staying in his cave and not coming out, hes also stopped eating. has he got some sort of illness or is he just colouring up and a bit moody?
all the other fish are fine!
sorry for the long question.
alex
What are you feeding him?
what's in the tank with him ( fishwise)?
Can you get a picture?
What size is he and the tank?
Don't worry yet about the colouration of the fins not forming yellow edges, I've seen some really dull males. Are you sure he's not got WS or anything added to the tanks water to upset him. They are pretty bombproof unless they end up on your carpet.

cant see very well, swollen slightly i think. i think its in both eyes, but the left slightly more. i think i saw what looked like air bubbles but were in his eye rather then on surface.
I'm not too sure about the bubbles in his eye. I've seen it a couple of times in large angels, one lost an eye completely and the other went blind but its guess work without a picture. If both eyes are 'popping' out it's a bacterial infection that AFAIK has no cure apart from improving water conditions & time. If it's one eye he could have knocked it against something. Have you tested all (or at least the basics ) of your water parameters? I'd start by doing a couple of 10%water changes for a week to improve the water if the tests are not up to standard. A picture is really needed to see how bad it is. When you said about the colour loss, there have been a few reports of older males losing their colour but there is a fair bit of discussion about that and wether it's due to diet or even lack of a female:rolleyes:
just dug this out

Do a search and see if your trigger looks like it has this disease

cheers djb1971, doent look as serious as popeye, but i suppose it could be in its early stages, will post a pic tomorrow.
I'd try to get some food in him if he's not eaten for a few days. Give him a bit of his favourite and see if he takes it. If it is a gas bubble disease like popeye or similar I'd increase water flow and ripple the surface to aid in gas exchange and do the water changes;)
I'll look out for the pic tomorrow;)
I'd think about gas bubble disease too, but don't; exclude exopthalmia (Popeye) which can be caused by injuries and localised infections but more often is due to a systemic bacterial or viral infection.
A course of treatment is hard to come up with without knowing the cause. So I'm looking forward to seeing the photo
