View Full Version : Safest way to remove yellow polyps

My yellow polyps are spreading nicely and in general they are going where I want them.

However, they are also going too close to some other corals and I want to trim them back along that side. As I cannot remove the rock what is the safest way to remove them?

I am thinking of vinyl gloves and holding the individual polyp and then slicing as close to the rock as possible, with plenty of fresh carbon and a new polyfilter to get rid of any nasties.

Does this sound about right? Or can anyone suggest a better way? I do have some Joes Juice so I _could_ use that on them if this would work.

TIA for any advice,
Eddie

Cutting would just frag them to somewhere else while the parent coral would just regrow.

Try some joes juice, if not kalk should work :)

Thanks Dan - Got my Joes Juice, now all I need to do is try and find the syringe...

Cheers, Eddie

Another method would be to scrape underneath the polyps with a razor blade so that you remove a thin layer of rock and don't actually cut into the coral. These can then be super glued to another rock and placed somewhere else in the tank or traded/sold. This way, you are not killing the polyps and there is no chance of them growing back or spreading.

Cheers Rob - will give that a try, only problem is that razor blades and my fingers usually go together too well.....
